Very few advances have occurred in the medical treatment of Parkinson’s Disease. In fact, the primary drug used to reduce the symptoms of Parkinson’s, levodopa, is over 50 years old. It is true that levodopa can temporarily reduce the symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease, but sadly it is also true that it does nothing to delay the progression of the disease. So the typical trajectory for those diagnosed with this disease is one of increasing medication use with steadily declining ability to function.
